Introduction
By way of introduction, my wife and I are members of the Savoy & Georgia Museums Inc. (GMI) who live close enough that we can enjoy the Savoy and other GMI museums on a regular basis.
Based on my pre-exhibit research, what we’ve seen during our visits to view new exhibits and what I’ve otherwise learned about the vehicles, I combined my enjoyment of automotive history, doing research and writing to create this “digital Archival Blog” as my personal reference source, which anyone is welcome to view and read.
In terms of the ‘target audience,’ my hope is the exhibit photo galleries and other information I capture will facilitate a ‘virtual visit’ to both current and past exhibits for those who, for whatever reason, are physically unable to visit the Savoy during an exhibit of interest. Secondarily, it will be a historical archive that will allow me as well as other museum members and guests to ‘revisit’ exhibits that have moved-on.
In no way is the archival blog a substitute for actually visiting the Savoy to see the exhibits first hand and visually explore the details of the vehicles and insights offered by the Savoy’s volunteer docents and other members of the staff.

And, yes… you can change the Savoy’s ‘default’ list view of events into a full-month calendar view by using the small view selector icon in the upper right-hand corner of list view page; just select ‘Month’ and voila, you can see a full-month view where hovering over an event will generate a pop-up of all the event detail. And, no I’m not sure why the Savoy doesn’t use this as their website’s default setting.

A Note About the Automotive Art at the Savoy: It is my heartfelt belief that most art cannot be fully appreciated beyond it’s aesthetic qualities to a viewer unless they take time to learn more about the artists, their inspiration and the techniques they use and why. With that additional understanding, artworks will usually provide the viewer with an entirely different experience, analogous to understanding how the Grand Canyon or amazing landscapes in Utah were formed vs. just appreciating their appearance. With that in mind, I created my ‘Automotive Art at the Savoy’ webpage that provides background on each of the artists that may be of interest. The same is also true of many of the automobiles that come through the Savoy as well, especially the one-off, unique models associated with a single designer.

More About this Digital Archival Blog:
The Savoy is an “Automobiles as Art-Gallery,” which we sincerely appreciate. Being able to see vehicles they way they are tastefully exhibited in the roomy, relatively distraction-free halls and galleries of the Savoy is just so refreshing. And, if you take a moment to enjoy the art hanging on the walls, it too is intriguing, even more-so if you take time to learn more about the artists.
I decided to create this blog so I could capture what we’ve seen at the exhibits in a digital, web-accessible digital Archival Blog with sufficient detail that will allow us to recall the details of our visits. However, after publishing content for nearly a year, in some respects its has transcended ‘Archival Blog‘ levels of detail to become a pseudo time capsule of the museum’s exhibit history that I refer to quite often. If others find it of interest, all the better.
However, this digital Archival Blog is no substitute for actually visiting the museum to see everything in person. Photos alone simply fail to allow readers to fully appreciate the vehicles and art on exhibit in terms of scale, detail, colors, textures in three-dimensions, just as it would with any art museum, monuments and other worthwhile exhibits or places of interest. Moreover, photos alone don’t make-up for the missed experience of being in the presence of the exhibit and amazing surrounding environment that is the Savoy and its knowledgeable, exceptional staff.
Since this is a non-commercial, hobbyist’s venture and I’m uploading low-resolution, small-sized images taken by an amateur photographer with initially a 2016 Samsung J3 Galaxy phone –– more recently a 2022 Apple iPhone SE — my sharing of this information is done in the spirit of the Fair Use Doctrine. My hope is, my on-line digital Archival Blog may inspire folks who somehow stumble upon it to visit the museum and see the exhibits first hand if at all possible, as that’s the best way to experience visual art… within the environment that’s been carefully curated for the exhibits.
Fair Warning: Given the variety and number of vehicles that have been exhibited, my “Archival Blog” has now grown in size and complexity well-beyond my initial, modest objective. To that end, I have included a few statistics below the index of each public blog entry created since July 2022 that reflect the same information you see below for the consolidated content of this entire blog.
- Printed page length
- Word count
- Reading time (Based on a reading speed of 300wpm)
- Total count of individual images
- Number of video links
- Hours of Content Work About 50% of the Effort Needed to Publish A Blog
Total Blog: Printed Length: 2,304-Pages, Word Count: 566,361 (31.6 Hour Read), Images: 6984 Video Links 205, and over 2,832-Hours of content work as of 28 April 2024

My Savoy Exhibit-Inspired Book Reading
In addition to the hundreds of internet-hosted articles I’ve read while doing research on the cars displayed in each of the Savoy’s exhibits that are listed as acknowledged sources where I’ve used information from those articles in whole or part as the background information I provide for each vehicle, I’ve also been inspired to obtain and read several books regarding the focus area of the exhibits. The following is a running index of those books as well as more recently starting to add articles I’ve read and cited using Seattle University’s outstanding ‘Joint STORage’ (JSTOR) site where, as a member, I’m enabled to read up to 100 articles a month.
